Six Unique St. Louis Wedding Venues

St. Louis is rich in historical locations perfect for couples looking to get married in uniquely interesting venues.   As a St. Louis wedding photographer, I have had the privilege of photographing a number of these amazing places.  To assist brides and grooms as they plan their weddings, I have listed six of my favorite picturesque area venues.

The Noble

The Noble is a restored 1920’s art deco bank building in South City.  At 10 stories, this classic beauty was once the tallest “skyscraper” on the south side, and still maintains it’s character with original bank vault, soaring ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, and gold Greek and Roman inspired details. The Noble is the perfect location for the vintage-loving couple and can accomodate up to 250 guests.

9th Street Abbey

9th Street Abbey is a restored 1850’s Soulard church owned by Patty Long’s Catering.  The ivy-encased courtyard patio is perfect for both portraits and cocktail hour, with a beautiful fountain, heirloom rose garden, and outdoor bar.  The indoor space with original stained glass windows can accommodate 210 seated guests for both ceremony and reception.

Jefferson Underground

Jefferson Underground is a former Chevrolet dealership built in 1920.  Renovations on the building began in 1995 by David Carter and his son John, with 95% of the rooftop space created from recycled materials.  Jefferson Underground can accommodate up to 250 guests, with both indoor and outdoor seating options.  The natural light flooding through windows in the brick walls and the distressed metal fire door opening into the elevator are especially suited for photographs.  The rooftop works well for urban-feel ceremonies and receptions, with a wet bar and open-hearth stone fireplace.

Stone House of St. Charles

Stone House of St. Charles was originally built in the early 1800’s by the Cottle family.  The original stone house with sun-lit conservatory is an ideal location for brides getting ready.  Grooms have their own quarters above the original carriage house, with big screen TVs and a pool table to keep the guys entertained.  The 400 guest Sycamore Hall is a combination of old country church and cozy alpine retreat, complete with wood-burning fireplace.  Stone House is a great option for couples wanting one location for all of their wedding day events.

City Cottage

City Cottage on Chouteau is owned by Catering St. Louis and can accommodate 100 seated dinner guests.  Originally a hospitality room for the beer industry, City Cottage is distinctly French-country inspired, with a landscaped patio, exposed brick walls, dining room fireplace, and hardwood floors.  An additional covered patio is perfect for intimate outdoor wedding ceremonies.  City Cottage is also a lovely choice for rehearsal dinners and wedding showers.

The Lemp Mansion

Originally the home and auxillary brewery office of the Lemp family, the Lemp Mansion is an 1860’s gem located in Soulard. Stone lions, landscaped gardens, and a Victorian fountain are just a few of the Lemp Mansion’s historic charms. The grounds include a tented patio and gazebo perfect for ceremonies and small receptions, while larger, indoor wedding options are available nearby at 1817 Cherokee St.
