Fun fact: I used to HATE photographing details. Mostly because I had no idea what I was doing. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Then Covid hit, all of my weddings were postponed, and I suddenly found myself with nothing to do. I needed a creative outlet, so I decided to spend my time in lockdown learning how to photograph details. I spent hours figuring out ways to quickly put together beautiful lays, a skill that became crucial on fast paced wedding days. Now, I absolutely love photographing details, so much so that I continue to practice and play when I need to keep creatively busy during slow season.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here are recommendations for couples who want me to photograph their details in a beautiful and unique way:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Mail an invitation to me prior to the wedding. This is the best way to ensure that I bring accessories that will best match the wedding. Also, have a second copy available on the day of the wedding, so I can feature both the front and back in the same photo.
2. Have all details gathered in one place on the day of the wedding, including both bride’s and groom’s rings. (Items I regularly photograph include: wedding rings, earrings/bracelet/necklace, perfume, purses, something old/blue/borrowed/blue, heirloom items, vow books, invitation, custom designed paper goods, shoes, and groom’s tie/cufflinks/watch)
3. Give me enough time to capture the details. This is dependent on how detail-heavy the wedding is. I recommend 30-60 minutes for most couples, but for REALLY detail oriented weddings, day-before flat lays is an option.
4. Don’t worry about ring boxes, dishes, etc., unless you have something special you want featured. You tell me your wedding colors, and I will take care of bringing items to match!
5. Ask your florist for flat lay flowers. A lot of florists already set aside leftover flowers and greenery for the photographers, which is HUGELY appreciated!
