Paul and I went camping last fall in the Arkansas Ozarks. We had beautiful weather and the hiking was amazing! (Sorry, Missouri Ozarks, you ain’t got nothing on Northern Arkansas.) We also spent a day in Eureka Springs, a cute little town that felt like it hadn’t changed much since the 1950’s. The last night of our adventure was Halloween, so we celebrated by carving a pumpkin, staying toasty by the fireplace in a log cabin, and sleeping in a real bed (my insomnia thanked me). With no TV signal, no internet, and no cellphone service in a town that proudly boasts a population of 9, we were truly off the beaten path. It was awesome.
As is now my habit when I travel, I only shot film so that I could enjoy the moment without obsessively looking at my camera screen and avoid sorting through and processing a billion photos when I got home. All photos were taken with the Mamiya 645 Pro on Kodak Portra 400 and Ektar 100 and processed by Indie Film Lab.
