Cincinnati & Michigan

A few weeks ago, my husband Paul and I traveled to Cincinnati to shoot a wedding.  Since we were only a few hours away from where I grew up in Michigan, we decided to make a vacation out of the trip.  Our original plan was to check out my old home in Howell and then head up to the Upper Peninsula for some camping and hiking at Pictured Rock National Lakeshore.  Unfortunately, the weather forecast in the UP for the whole week was strong winds and thunderstorms.  We scrambled to change our plans, booking hotel rooms and air b&bs at the last minute.  Fortunately, we were traveling just before the start of tourist season, so we had no problem finding availability.  While the vacation was not the one we had originally planned, we still had fun on Mackinac Island, in the Traverse City area, and at Sleeping Bear Dunes.

Before we left for vacation, I resolved to take only film photos.  I knew that if I shot digital, I would end of taking hundreds of photos I would never have the time to sift through and edit, and I would be so wrapped up in getting the “perfect shot” that I would not stop to enjoy the moment.  The plan worked beautifully, and with minimal post processing, I ended up with a much higher ratio of “keepers.”

All photos were taken with my Mamiya 645 Pro, on both Portra 400 and Fuji 400h, and processed by Indie Film Lab.
